Cotton Coats

Cotton Coats

Cotton in their nifty coats

It’s been very windy and a bit on the cool side here in Baltimore.  Cotton prefers warm weather with a soil temperature of 65 degrees.

When the cotton was first planted, our temperatures were in the high 80’s with warm evenings.  But we learned from our experience last year when the weather was warm and sunny but quickly turned cold and rainy after we planted our cotton outside.  This year our cotton plants are wearing little coats to shield them from the wind and cooler temperatures.  We purchased Kozy Coats from Gurney’s.  The coats are filled with water to heat up during the day and provide a nice warm environment for the cotton while shielding them from excessive wind. I am happy to say the cotton plants are happy in their coats.
